OO. INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS TO STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

This new course for 2017 is intended to provoke “outside-of-the-box thinking”, and our panel of experts will examine many unconventional and some entirely new approaches to managing stormwater! While Florida was a pioneer in the regulation of stormwater – dating back to the establishment of the MSSW program in 1972 – are we too focused on regulation today and missing an opportunity to once again be a pioneer? If we started over today with a blank sheet of paper, how should we address stormwater management?  How would we better target and fund it? Should we/ how do we incentivize harvesting stormwater for water supply? How would “stormwater credit trading”, stormwater “co-ops”, or a “cap and trade” system work? Might we do better in springsheds? This panel will examine a number of “mission-driven”, rather than “regulatory-driven”, alternatives to our current system of stormwater management, and the audience should come prepared to participate in what is sure to be a lively and thought-provoking discussion!
