AAA. THE NEW UMAM: PROPOSED REVISIONS TO FLORIDA’S UNIFORM MITIGATION ASSESSMENT METHOD
Florida’s Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) is the primary method by which regulatory agencies determine the amount of mitigation necessary to offset impacts to wetlands and other surface waters and the number of mitigation credits to be assigned to a mitigation bank. This course is a double session focusing on proposed revisions to the UMAM rule. According to their website, the DEP intends to revise the UMAM rule to achieve more certainty and consistency across the state while still accounting for each region’s diverse ecological communities. The goal is a more streamlined and straightforward UMAM rule that is easier to use on both ends – easier for the citizens or businesses applying UMAM and for the agency staff processing the applications. This course will provide a variety of perspectives from a panel of expert UMAM practitioners who have been active in the efforts to revise UMAM. Audience participation is strongly encouraged to provide constructive input to the Department regarding progress thus far and any further improvements which may be necessary.
