Karla has been a Section 7 Biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service since 2000. She started out in Washington State, consulting on listed salmon in marine, estuary, and river environments. Karla moved to the Southeast Region in NMFS in 2005 and has carried out Section 7 consultations including dock/seawall/dredge projects, Hydro re-licensing, port deepening, military training, SpaceX launches, emergency response activities including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, fisheries research projects, and others. She was promoted to Section 7 Team lead in October of 2015. In this position she wrangles SERO Section 7 Staff (~12), coordinates workload, works to find creative solutions to NMFS workload/staffing challenges, conceptualizes programmatic consultations and other efficiencies, and many (many) other duties as assigned.
