Ron Basso is a chief hydrogeologist with the Southwest Florida Water Management District. He has over 30 years of experience in groundwater modeling, resource regulation, and resource management activities in the state of Florida. Ron works with a team of scientists and engineers to conduct studies on groundwater resource issues. He has authored or co-authored over 20 District publications ranging from descriptions of hydrogeologic conditions, development of drilling and testing plans, analysis of aquifer performance tests, construction and calibration of regional groundwater models, and hydrologic evaluations for minimum flows and levels. He provides numerous technical presentations to the SWFWMD Governing Board, advisory committees, public workshops, and citizen groups.

Ron is also a scientist on the District’s Springs Team. His role on the Springs Team is to assess the water resource conditions of the region and evaluate how groundwater withdrawals affect spring flow. Ron received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of South Florida (USF) in 1985. He also received a master’s degree in hydrogeology from the USF in 2000. He is a licensed professional geologist.
