Steven grew up on his family's farm outside of Malone, Florida. He attended the University of Florida (Go Gators!) where he received a bachelor’s degree in Food and Resource Economics with a minor in Agricultural Law. Steven continued his education at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, receiving a master’s degree in Environmental Management and a Juris Doctorate from Cumberland School of Law. After graduation, Steven joined the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Office of General Counsel, where he has served in various capacities and currently serves as the Department’s General Counsel.

Steven was recognized by the Florida Government Bar Association as the 2018 Government Attorney of the Year and by the University of Florida as a 2020 member of the 40 Gators Under 40 Outstanding Young Alumni. Steven serves as the President of the Education Foundation for UF’s Alpha Gamm Rho fraternity and is a member of Florida Blue Key. He is a sixth-generation Florida farmer and continues an active role in his family’s farming operation.
